Meet My Good Friend, Alan Waters
At 103 Years of Age - He's Still Got it!
by Debra Saxon - Owner, Celebration Magazine
will never forget the first time I met Alan Waters. It was June,
2004 - my very first day working at the job that would change
I my life, my career and my heart. It was my first day working
at a retirement community. Alan was 88 at the time.
I saw Alan from across the room, his smile was big and bright
as he worked his way through the room. It was a Tuesday which
meant the activities room was crowded with men and women
gathering for cards and games.
As I watched Alan that day, I knew that we would have a special
friendship, and over the years, that is exactly what transpired.
Alan not only became my friend, but someone I have come to
consider family.
As a lover of life, Alan has always tried everything offered to
him. He loves to travel, his beautiful partner in life, Betty and
of course, his family. Alan has also tried his hand in Parasailing,
Ziplining, Rock Climbing on a Royal Caribbean cruise (I was
there to witness this) all after the age of 90!
Ever since I have known Alan, he has also had a love for painting.
Alan has always taken painting classes and would participate in
the annual art shows along with his classmates.
His favorite subject...pets! In fact, when my beautiful Nicky
passed away, Alan surprised me with a portrait of her that still
hangs in my home to this day (she is the black Border Collie
below).
On May 1st, Alan went solo with his own Art Show. It was a
beautiful afternoon with friends and family and, once again, I was
there to witness Alan's love for his craft and the beauty that he
creates.
We could all learn a thing or two from Alan Waters. Because at
103 years of age, he's still got it!
