The Spectacular Follies definitely has a ‘New Attitude’ this year. 808-2944, or (dowlingm@sbcglobal.net).
After a decade of being called the Spectacular Senior Follies, the
word ‘senior’ has been dropped from the name. Anyone who has
seen one of the performances can understand why. Although the
energetic cast of professionals may all be of ‘a certain age’, they’ve
all taken a drink from the fountain of youth and the vitality, liveliness
and youthfulness of the many entertainers dispels any thought that
these people are seniors.
The ‘New Attitude’ of the Follies will be highlighted for 2019;
the show will feature several new performance segments, such
as a classical music portion featuring some of the most beautiful
music ever performed, with some fun, unexpected surprises. An
‘unplugged’ section will feature acoustic, rather than amplified
musicians showing off their instrumental skills. A country western
segment will feature a hoe-down and a tribute to one of country’s
biggest stars. For those who love Gospel, you’ll enjoy some of the
sweetest music this side of heaven.
This does not mean that the Follies will forget its most beloved
acts. Audience favorites Rose-Mary Rumbley, Jackie Troup Miller,
Class Act and Tap Dazzlers dance groups, along with our always
popular onstage musicians and full orchestra in the pit will be on
hand. We’ll present our tribute to the Great White Way with our
Broadway section and we’ll again honor America with our heart-
warming patriotic grand finale. The Follies would not be complete
without our famous Follies Showgirls who will dazzle you with
their beauty and incredible over-the-top lavish outfits featuring all
the sequins, feathers and beads you’ve come to love, always topped
off with the gorgeous impossibly large head dresses that rival any
