Movie Review by Shanon Weaver Disney/Pixar Gives us a Lovely Piece of their Mind with Inside Out! Make it a date with your grandkids or with friends! ot long after the start of Disney/Pixar’s Children and adults alike will fnd this flm entertaining newest outing, Inside Out, I realized they and thought provoking. Many discussions about feelings had hit on something delightful and special, will occur on the drive home, and in today’s social climate, but also very important. This flm teaches us that’s commendable. The only drawback to the flm is that Nthat our feelings combine to create the core once you realize what the story is and how it’s told, you of who we are, and all should be embraced. wish the creators had gone even further with the idea. But Riley (Kaitlyn Dias,) age 11, has had a great life. A loving that’s what sequels are for, right? ● family, wonderful home in Minnesota, and impressive hockey skills—but that all changes when her father (Kyle MacLachlan) starts a new company and the family uproots to San Francisco. We see this—and the vast majority of the flm— take place through the lens of Riley’s emotions, characters themselves. The world of Riley’s inner-self is vivid, colorful, and fun. Her brain serves as HQ for the emotions of Joy, Fear, Disgust, Sadness, and Anger. These characters relegate her memories, shaping Riley into the young lady she will become. Joy (Amy Poehler) has had the run of the place for most of Riley’s life, but when Riley is ripped from her friends and childhood home, the others take a more active role. Riley’s memories appear in HQ as glowing spheres, where her emotions sort and store them into long-term memory. Some memories are powerful enough to form “core memories,” which power the “Islands” of Riley’s personality—Goofball, Friendship, Family, Honesty, etc… the core tenets of who Riley is. As Riley deals with the upheaval of her life, Joy discovers that Sadness (Phyllis Smith) has the ability to change Riley’s memories by touching them. Through an accident at HQ, Joy and Sadness are whisked away into long-term memory and watch as, due to events in Riley’s life, her islands begin to crumble. Anger (Lewis Black,) Fear (Bill Hader,) and Disgust (Mindy Kalling) take charge—but without Joy and Sadness, things quickly go awry. As Joy and Sadness race to return to HQ as Riley plans to run away, they meet up with her old imaginary friend Bing Bong (Richard Kind,) who You can catch Inside Out at one of these theaters! acts as a guide, taking them through Imagination Land, the Studio Movie Grill - 13933 N.
